ACNV presents Classical Meets Jazz * 8/28/2008

This exciting performance presents musicians from Red Rocks Music Festival including David Ehrlich, Virginia Tech faculty; Nancy Buck, ASU faculty; Magdalena Martinique-Jeric, Phoenix Symphony; Russell Schmidt Trio, Jazz Department, Bowling Green University, Ohio.

Program includes Mozart Piano Quartet in E flat, Beethoven Quintet for Two Violas, and Tango by Piazzolla. The Russell Schmidt Trio will perform selections for the CD Seasons as well as Jazz Improvisations.

Performance at Fellowship Church, 39905 N. Gavilan Peak Parkway, Anthem. Lobby doors open at 6:00 p.m., performance at 7:00 p.m.



ACNV presents Djembe Workshop * 9/20/2008 Amadou Kienou, Master Drummer from Burkina Faso, will present a djembe drum workshop at the Beuf center which will be open to the public prior to the performance Saturday, September 20 from 1 - 2:30 p.m. Beginners and experienced drummers are welcome. The fee for the workshop is $15 per person. Participants must register in advance by calling 623-516-ACNV x3. A limited number of drums will be available for participants to use in the workshop. Please indicate this upon registration. Participants may also bring their own drum. Maximum participants = 20 people. (They will also allow others to view the workshop if there are more people)

ACNV presents Masters of African Music and Dance * 9/20/2008 The performance will feature West African music and dance by Amadou Kienou (Burkina Faso) and Mabiba Baegne (Congo) who are each masters of their art forms. Although the artists are from two different countries they share the same cultural background called Madeng. Amadou Kienou is the 7th son of a family of praise singers from Dafing origin. He is referred to as "the drum master of Burkina Faso". Amadou regularly performs throughout Europe and Africa. Mabiba Baegne was born in Brazzaville in the Congo and was initiated into dance by her grandparents when she was eight years old. She joined the National Ballet of the Congo at age 18 and toured the world with them as a principal dancer for seven years. She is currently the Artistic Director for AZ Drum and Dance in Arizona.
This performance will be a first time collaboration for both artists and excite the audience with the spirit and rhythm of Africa.

ACNV presents Multi-cultural Music & Dance at Anthem Autumnfest * 10/25/2008 Anthem Autumnfest is being held Friday – Sunday, October 24 – 26 from 10 am to 5 pm daily at the Anthem Community Park on 41703 N. Gavalin Peak Parkway in Anthem, AZ from 10 a.m. – 5p.m. As a public event, the Anthem Autumnfest is free and open to the public. Bring the entire family for a beautiful day in the park! Activities include an arts and crafts village, food, a kids zone and exceptional entertainment.

The Arts Council of the North Valley is partnering with the Anthem Community Council to present diverse and exciting performances on Saturday and Sunday including a variety of bands, musicians, and dancers.

2:15 pm ~ Tausala ~ Hold on to your hula skirts and get ready for the rhythm of the islands! Tausala is one of the best Polynesian dance groups in Phoenix.

3:00 pm ~ Gustavo Angeles Ensemble ~ This amazing trio will heat it up with the Latin guitar. Listen for sounds of Flamenco as you journey through Latin America.

3:30 pm ~ Axe Capoeira Arizona ~ Capoeira encompasses Afro-Brazilian culture, art, music, language, and movement into one cohesive whole. Come see this beautiful, yet dangerous; smooth, yet powerful Brazilian blend of martial art, game and dance!

ACNV presents 'As You Like It' * 11/1/2008 “All the world’s a stage” includes this unique location and an exciting production of “As You Like It” by Arizona Shakespeare Festival. This outdoor venue (adjacent the Beuf Community Center) is a great setting for this pastoral comedy by William Shakespeare where most of the action takes place in a location called “Forest of Arden”.

Bring your blanket, lawn chair, and picnic lunch and enjoy the park and the inspired performances in this hilarious production. This is fun for the entire family.

The Arizona Shakespeare Festival was founded in Prescott, AZ in 1998 by theatre veterans Kelly Johnston and Tracey Mason Johnston. They produced their first Shakespeare Festival in October 1999 on the historic Courthouse Square in downtown Prescott. Over the course of the following 10 years, they have performed both outdoor and indoor festivals for Prescott and the greater state of Arizona, with guest artists joining them from all over the United States.

This is a free event

Beuf Community Center is located at 3435 W. Pinnacle Peak Rd., Phoenix at the SE corner of 35th Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Rd.

In case of inclement weather, the performance will be held inside the community center.

ACNV presents Cabaret & Cake * 11/15/2008 “On the Air”: a fabulous “blast from the past” where the classic hits from the 50s and 60s (and the laughs) just keep on coming! The talented cast from Act Two Productions will present their original musical comedy production featuring oldies radio KDOG-AM 950 and its hilarious “DJs”.

Cake and coffee are included.

ACNV Regional Teen Art Competition and Exhibition * 4/4/2009 The 3rd annual ACNV Regional Teen Art Competition and Exhibition is being held this year at Anthem Days on Saturday, April 4th and Sunday, April 5th, from 10 - 5 pm both days. The award ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 5th at 4:00 p.m. Participating high schools include Barry Goldwater, Boulder Creek, Deer Valley, Mountain Ridge, and Sandra Day O'Connor.

The exhibit is titled: "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" after the painting by artist Georges-Pierre Seurat.

Anthem Days is located at Anthem Community Park at the corner of Anthem Way and Gavilan Peak Parkway, Anthem, AZ 85086.

ACNV Regional Teen Art Competition and Exhibition * 4/5/2009 The 3rd annual ACNV Regional Teen Art Competition and Exhibition is being held this year at Anthem Days on Saturday, April 4th and Sunday, April 5th, from 10 - 5 pm both days. The award ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 5th at 4:00 p.m. Participating high schools include Barry Goldwater, Boulder Creek, Deer Valley, Mountain Ridge, and Sandra Day O'Connor.

Picnic Under the Stars ~ Express Yourself! * 4/25/2009 Picnic Under the Stars – Express Yourself!

Event goers purchase tables (2, 6 or 10), decorate them and themselves with a theme- from Gilligan’s Island to Phantom of the Opera; from Gone with the Wind to Beach Blanket Bingo. The idea – Express Yourself!

Dance to music by "The Spin Band", cash bar (wine & beer), prizes, live auction.

Bring your picnic for dinner under the stars.

Cabaret & Cake - 'Hey Old Friend' - Matinee * 5/30/2009 Treat your friends and family to the sultry sounds of Jazz and the Best of Broadway in favorite songs in which vocalists Shana Bousard and Sally Jo Bannow team up with the renowned piano talents of Joe Bousard. Immerse yourself in an afternoon of vocal delight and humor while enjoying delicious coffee and cake, which are included.

This event is being held at the historic Opera House at Pioneer Living History Village and Museum. You will get a sense of the pioneer spirit while enjoying this exciting musical program.
